I Could Write a Book

A few weeks ago, as I was poking around the Internet, I saw an ad that caught my eye. "Turn your blog into a book!" it announced.  "Hm," I thought, "Come to think of it, I could print my blog and bind it.  That might be a nice way to preserve it for my family."  So I took all the posts I wrote in 2007, including a few that I either didn't finish or decided not to share, and I had them printed and bound.  And holy crap.  It really was a book.  Nearly three hundred and fifty 8"x10" sheets of paper covered in line after line of 9pt Georgia type.  And that's just from April of 2007 (when I started blogging) to December of 2007.

I have always wanted to write a book: a memoir, a novel, a collection of essays or short stories.  And I always assumed I couldn't do it in my "spare time." But in essence, that's exactly what I did do; I produced a book of essays in 2007, another (although I haven't had it printed and bound yet) in 2008 and another in 2009.  It's not edited.  It's not perfect.  But it's a huge amount of writing, much of which I'm proud of.  Well, what do you know about that!

  2. Isn't it interesting? How the names we give things define their worth, value, meaning? It's all the same, and sometimes scrawled on the back of an envelope.
Congratulations. I have no doubt your writing will be all kinds of books one day.

  4. You SHOULD write a book. You're interesting. Why not do it for the rest of the world to read? I'd buy it.

  5. I printed out the first two years of my blog and have two binders right full. That made me feel great. I have another 3 years that I haven't printed but hope to one day.

  6. Yes - that's a ton of writing! My dad has been telling me to do that with my year and a half of blogging - turn it into a book. It's pretty great how it all adds up!

  7. Fantastic idea!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to get a new black ink cartridge, but then I think I'll try your idea. Great ideas should be shared and I'm atwitter with this one. Good Goddess, how many pages do you think it will take to print out my blog? I might need three or four cartridges for the year and a half I've been doing it.

You continue to be informative, interesting, and full of fab-u-lous-ity! Thanks.

  10. You know what a brilliant idea; someday I need to print mine out. Your blog is quite honest, amazing and brilliant...I would purchase your book!!!

Have you thought of doing NaNoWriMo and work on your memoir?

    Many hugs!

  11. Congrats! You could use a lot of this material to anchor a book. Just think, most of the work would already be done! I do think that there would be a pretty big audience for your story, and not just for addicts or their partners. You've got a great story of healing in marriage that many people could benefit from.

  12. That is terrific! You can cross 'write a book' off your 'to do' list.

  13. Hey! I've thought of doing that, too, because my blog is like my journal and for sure, given the rapid progress of technology, it won't still be up in 15 or 30 years from now.

*wishing you'd mentioned how/ with what company you did that, exactly*

    Good for you.
