What?!

Last night I was talking to my husband and said, "You know I think I'd really like to get a tattoo. Do you know what of?"

"What?" he responded.

"I think I want a tattoo that says 'Let go and let God' because that's something I want to remember more often."

He sat in stunned silence for a while, with his jaw on the floor like one of those cartoon characters.

"What?" I asked.

"You'd tattoo the word 'God,' um, on your body?!" he stammered.

"Yes, why?" I asked.

"You would tattoo God on your body?"

"Oh, yeah. I guess that is huge for me. But I'd be talking about my God. And I'd put it where no one could see it. And I'd put a Darwin fish on the car to balance it out."

"Well, ok then."

  1. I think the pain of getting the tattoo would be enough to make me remember to surrender.

I like the concept though ... a constant reminder to Let Go and Let God. Of course, I'd need it tattooed across my forehead and on both hands.

    =)

unsolicited idea: you could have it tattooed in a different language, or in a warped font like the word verification acid test, so that only you know what it really says. That way you don't have anyone else reading it and projecting their thoughts on God on your body.

    btw, Love the picture!

  4. I am cracking up! I love it!

I just designed a rough tattoo design for my husband. He meets with the artist this week to discuss it, tweak it etc. I can't wait.

I am looking to get my second soon. It is a tough decision as to what to get. Do you have any tattoos or just daydreaming about them?

  5. Just let me know when you're ready for me to start bossing you around about it.

I already have the design ready for you in my head.

  6. For some reason I misread that as "Let's got and get God". I was picturing a lynch mob... :)

With re-reading it correctly, I am just put in mind of Crush, the turtle from Finding Nemo. Like totally dude.

  8. Love the sense of 'balance' in your thinking. Remember DOG is GOD spelled backwards ;--)

Guilty, I actually thought about posting a picture of a Darwin fish for people who haven't seen it, but that nun was funnier. Although, duh. I could post the Darwin fish at the end. Think I'll do that!

  13. Never heard of the Darwin fish. Hmm....interesting! If ya can, call me today! I will be home and without a car all day long! My car is in the shop and I'm more than likely going to be going stir-crazy here all day long!!

  14. oh I just love this.
makes me remember all over again why I first fell for you, reading you here.
something about the way you see things, and then write them, clicks with me again and again.
Breaking the rules and codes, even the "self imposed".
I hope you do get the tattoo, the name of god, your god, on your body.

  15. You totally have to get this tattoo--it's awesome. You know, I was watching a show about tattoos on the history channel the other day, and I learned that now you can get a UV tattoo that only shows up under black light. It might defeat the purpose of using it as a reminder to let go, but then again, you could always carry around a black light in your purse.

bella, I'm just happy to be distracting you from your achy head. And I'm totally going to do the tattoo. I'm psyched about it. :)

  17. I was like your husband at first, going "huh?" but I love the idea. I even like the Darwin fish along with the God one. My thought is that God created Darwin so what's the problem? Not that I'd put the Darwin fish on my car bumper. I do work for a Catholic organization after all. Yeah, I do. Go figure. hehe.
