Calling all Writers!

I've been reading marta's blog for a while, where she posts updates on the novel she's working on. And I've been wondering when I would ever be able to get a chance to read what she's posted of it.

But then I realized: I'm going to Long Vowels' wedding next week. And since Vowels lives far enough from me to require a plane flight, I'll have hours of kid-free time in which to contemplate my fear of flying -- I mean, read something longer than a blog post. So, I decided I'd print out whatever of marta's novel was available before the trip and take it with me to read.

But marta's not the only one. Shelli at Mama of Letters just posted part of her young adult novel for comments. And I know lots more of you are writing, if not necessarily sharing drafts on your blogs. (If you are sharing, I may not have seen it -- I'm still 440 posts in the hole on Google Reader. I'm progressing in alphabetical order by folder, so when I get to you depends on a combination of where in the alphabet your blog name falls as well as where I have you filed. I'm scrupulously fair.)

So, all you writers, if you've got a manuscript you're willing to share, I'd love to take you on the plane with me. In return, I will honestly tell you what I liked best about your work -- and what I didn't. (But only if you want that "didn't" part. I sure as hell wouldn't, but that's why I'm not trying to get published!)

Leave me a comment with a URL (if you've posted your work online) or e-mail me at mamampj@gmail.com before Thursday, May 29th. (I'm leaving on the 30th and want to make sure I have time to print things.) I will read in the order received.

Hope you'll join me on my trip. What better way to celebrate meeting some of my blogging BFFs than to take others of you with me? This is going to be fun!

  1. Wow. Such a generous offer...

I'm not sure if I want to publish my stuff yet, but I am flirting with the idea of researching love & sharing the information I find. Maybe incorporating personal anecdotes, who knows?

I love to write, but I'm not certain if I write well enough for anyone to truly take interest, or if the subject matter is substantial (it is to me, of course).

I would love, love, love to know your critical thoughts of my blog. Since you asked.

    LOL!

    Have a wonderful, wonderful trip!

Oh, BizyLizy, asking for my critical thoughts on your blog without giving me something to read on the plane in return -- that's cheating!

I love LOVE flying. Specially the taking off and landing bits. So you can pretend (since I'm imaginary anyway) that I'm sitting next to you as we take off with the biggest grin on my face, and squealing with delight, and then you can punch me in my imaginary face if that makes you feel better.

    Just doing my part.

  4. Oh, Mary. Thank you for your link love! You are too too kind. I also love helping others with their writing, so I'd be more than happy to repay anyone with the favor. I have tried at times to find more blogging-writers-who-want-to-get-published, but I just don't have much time to spend surfing the web. If you know of anyone, pass their name on to me.

If you find you have too much to read on the airplane, don't worry about my stuff, but I'd still love your input regardless of its due date. I'm not very optimistic about this writers conference....I know that's bad, but I can't help it!

  5. MPJ, LOL! I'm afraid my face is a little red. I think I misunderstood...thought you were printing out stuff to read & wasn't sure if you had read through my entire "story."

So, I thought, "What the hell, she's asking..."

    My bad.

Be safe. Have oodles of fun!

BizyLizy, Oops! Sorry for the confusion! I figured I would try to print out longer projects to read during the flight, since I can squeeze in the blog post reading (for the most part) in little snippets here and there throughout the day.

I have indeed read every word of your story so far. But I don't always comment. It's quicker to read than to write!

  7. Thanks MPJ. I'm flattered and horrified--but I'll get over it. Enjoy a safe flight with, perhaps, some good things to read...
