I was thinking I need a week of blogging to catch up on blogging, but think I need another week of blogging just to catch up on memes, awards and other various and sundry things that have been piling up during my recent spate of viruses (and prior to that, my perpetual spate of disorganizedness). Let this be a start: Jay has tagged me in a "six quirks about me" meme. And since my quirks are mainly sensory integration issues, I've decided this is "Six Sensory Issues of Mine!"1) Link to the person that tagged you.
2) Post the rules on your blog.
3) Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
4) Tag at least three people at the end of your post and link to their blogs.
5) Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
6) Let the fun begin!
- I eat the same thing for breakfast every day and have for years: one slice of whole wheat toast with Nutella and a glass of ice water. Sometimes I go through periods where I add a banana, sometimes I swap the water for milk, but the toast and Nutella are musts. In general, if I can't eat that, I end up feeling empty and unsatisfied all day, even if I eat something else, which I generally don't do unless I'm traveling. And things like this are why I don't like to travel.
- I go on "food jags," meaning I eat the same thing day after day at a given meal for months. (I learned this term through dealing with my son's eating issues, and it is one of the reasons I didn't realize that some of his eating habits were as far outside the norm as they are.) My current jag is cheese sandwiches for lunch. My husband finds this incredibly dull. I find it comforting.
- I run hot. I own one jacket, which I wear in all weather and I perpetually appear to be underdressed in the winter. My husband runs cold and owns what seems like at least 10,000 jackets, coats, sweatshirts, parkas, raincoats, etc. for every subtle variation in temperature Nature possesses. I can't understand why he needs so many, and keeping track of them drives me crazy. But I do like acting as his human electric blanket.
- I don't wear socks. It pains me to put socks on my kids, because I remember how miserable those seams made me as a child and how I used to fuss with them to get them just right over my toes: crooked socks with seams that poked my toes were the bane of my existence. Oddly, my kids don't seem to mind socks. I also can't sleep if my feet are under the covers. I knew I loved my husband when I fell asleep on his couch one night while we were dating, and he covered me up, all except my feet.
- Fluorescent lighting makes me dizzy. I find it helps to wear sunglasses in places like Target, even if it looks really weird.
- I'm very picky about fabric textures. I can't wear wool or polyester, because they're too rough. I prefer nice soft cotton, rayon or (mmm, decadent killing of millions of worms) silk.
